This piece started out as an excercise in copying the Masters paintings. Paul Gaugin painted The Schmollende http://www.paul-gauguin.net/The-Schmollende-large.html.

A copy of that painting exists underneath the swirls of orange and green. Schmollende means "sulking" in German. The final result of this painting is the opposite of sulking.
